Replicating Data From PostgreSQL to ClickHouse Cloud
Benjamin Wootton
Postgres and ClickHouse are an increasingly common pairing of databases, with Postgres managing transactional workloads (OLTP) whilst ClickHouse manages analytical requirements (OLAP). Though real time Data Warehousing is a common driver, we also find that sometimes people run both databases as part of their transactional application with ClickHouse powering analytical features to keep load off Postgres.
Though there are multiple routes to replicating data from Postgres to ClickHouse, it is worth giving due consideration to PeerDB. PeerDB have built one of the most high performing CDC solutions for Postgres, and having been acquired by ClickHouse in 2024 and integrated into ClickHouse Cloud, it is the natural choice when integrating these two databases.
